N727RT Progress Summary:  Jan 2006  .

WING AND GEAR FAIRINGS:  It takes a bit of work to correctly trim and position the wing fairings.  I cut the lower fairings in half to make it easier.  The fwd sections were done in Redmond with the wings on.  I worked the back sections with the plane upside down and then moved to the hanger to re-install the wings and bond them on.

I've choose to do the wheel fairing from the top down (manual says to do them from the wheel pant up).  I figure If I can get the fairings straight, then I'll make the leg and pant match the fairing.  There's probably a harder way - but I haven't discovered it yet.

Also below are a few photos of a mock-up retractable step (retracts into the wing fairing).  After much head scratching, I've decided to abandon the step altogether (for now).

In Jan I also went to Oklahoma to the Advanced Pilot Seminar Engine Management Seminar (www.advancedpilot.com).  It's ran by George Braley, John Deakon, and Walter Atkinson - three of the brightest, most experience aircraft engine guys I've ever met.  The course helped convince me to use a Continental 550 (versus a Lycoming or other non-standard engine).

After the seminar, I went to the FAA CAMI (Civil Aviation medical Institute) for their High Altitude Training Class.  After a morning in the classroom, we are taken to the chamber to become familiar with hypoxia symptoms.  At CAMI, they also have an assortment of other equipment in the LAB.
