LancairES Yahoo Group - Signup Instructions

There is a free electronic message board (Yahoo Group) dedicated to Lancair ES builders that offers a wealth of valuable email archives, photos, and ongoing discussion with other builders.

Web address:   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lancair_ES/

The primary function of the Group is as a common electronic email message board amongst members/builders.  It is valuable for asking questions and receiving comments/answers, as well as, reviewing other builder's questions and comments.  The group site also contains photos, a member/builder directory, and links to other relevant web sites.

However, the signup process can be a bit confusing.

Listed below are the step-by step instructions for:

  1. Getting a required YahooID

  2. Becoming a member of the Yahoo Lancair ES Group

(TIP: print these steps to follow along as you signup).

Step 1. (main Yahoo screen)

Goto the main yahoo page (www.yahoo.com), as shown below.

Normally, the main screen will ask you to "SignIn", (red box).

If you already have a (prior) YahooID and are already Signed-in, the screen will say/ask you to "SignOut" (do not signout).  Skip to step #7.

Otherwise click [Sign-In] or [Sign-Up].  They both take you to the same next screen (step #2)

Step 2. (Sign-In Screen)

If you already have a (prior) YahooID and know your password, enter it here and skip to step  #7

If you do not have a YahooID, click [Sign Up], which will take you to the Sign-Up screen (step #3).

Step 3. (Sign-UP Screen)

This is the Sign-Up screen.

Enter your name, gender, YahooId, and a Password.

You can create/select any name/password, but you will need to select something unique and that you can easily remember.  You will get an error if your selected YahooId is already taken.

Continue with the security question, zipcode, and alternate email.

Your "alternate email" is essentially your normal (non-yahoo) email.  If you forget your password, this is the place that yahoo will send you a copy of it.

Finally, enter the verification code shown and click [I Agree] This will take you to the next screen (step #4).

Step 4. (Registration Complete)

Bingo!  You now have a YahooId!

Make a note of your ID and password. so you do not forget them.

Click [Continue]

Step 5. (If this appears, Skip It)

This next screen is essentially an advertisement for Yahoo's new email software.  Skip this...   Click [Remind me Later].

Step 6. (Goto My Yahoo!)

Your YahooId is actually a free Yahoo email account.

If all you want is access to the LancairES Group Forum, then you do not have to ever use your Yahoo email account (ignore it - who needs more email anyway).  Otherwise, if you'd like to use your Yahoo email for the Yahoo Group mail or anything else, you can come back here later.

Note, a confirmation/validation email will be sent to the "alternate email" account you entered above (in step #3).  You should go read your (normal/alternate) email and reply to the Yahoo validation email to confirm your account, as described in the Yahoo validation email message.

Click  My Yahoo!  in the upper left corner to exit Yahoo mail.

Step 7. (My Yahoo!)

You will now be taken back to the main Yahoo! screen.  However, you will notice that you are now logged in under your YahooId.

Click [Groups] in the left hand task bar.

Step 8. (Find the LancairES Group)

Enter Lancair in the Yahoo Groups Search box and click [Search]

Note: after joining the Lancair ES group, it will be automatically listed for you on the left side of the screen under the My Groups heading.  So, you will not need to search again each time.

Alternatively, (after completing the membership process) you can access the Group site directly at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lancair_ES/

Step 9. (Select the Lancair ES Yahoo Group)

The search (from step #8) will bring up a list of Lancair related Yahoo Groups.

Find and select (click) the Lancair ES group

You can also join the other groups if you desire, but they are not nearly as active as the ES group.

Step 10. (Join the LancairES Group)

This will bring up the main screen of the Lancair ES Yahoo Group.  The contents of the Group are listed in the left hand task bar.  However, to access most of the information, you must join the group.

Click the [Join this Group] button in the upper right corner.

Membership is open to anyone interested in Lancair ES's.  However, to prevent irrelevant SPAM, the membership requests are normally reviewed (and approved) by a few of the original members (moderators).  This means your membership may not be processed for a day or two.  However, it does keep the email messages 99% on topic.

Step 11. (Complete your account profile)

Follow the instructions to setup your account profile.  This is necessary to complete your membership request.

You will note that you can have the group email messages sent to either your new Yahoo email account or your normal/external "alternate email" account.  However, first you will have to receive and reply to the validation message that will be sent to your "alternate email: account.

Enter the garbled text message into the box at the bottom to complete the profile setup and click the [Join] button in the bottom right corner.

You should get a email confirming your membership (perhaps in a day or two.

Step 12. (Browse the Group Site)

You can browse the message archive immediately.  Once your membership is compete, you will be also able to send and receive messages, as well as review the photos, member/builder directory, web links, etc.

Recall, you can access the Group site directly at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lancair_ES/
